Here at YUSU (York University Students Union), we have an exciting job opportunity for someone to join our Finance team as the Finance Assistant.

About the Role:

Are you looking for a finance role to help further your existing finance career, working with a flexible working employer? YUSU is looking for a capable and ambitious finance enthusiast with a keen interest in the Student Union and an interest in a role within administration and finance to help improve student experience. The right applicant will be in post as a Finance Assistant as soon as possible.

You will have great organisational, communication and problem solving skills, with a keen eye for attention to detail, as well as experience of working in a team and supporting others at all levels. You should also be confident at using accounting software packages, G Suite and Microsoft Office packages, including using formulae and other excel functions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the purchase ledger including matching invoices to orders and delivery notes, obtaining authorisation for payment, accurate coding for VAT purposes and inputting to accounts. Ensuring payments are made in accordance with the terms of supply, preparing weekly bacs runs and allocating payments. Reconciling all supplier statements including supply chain, chasing invoices and requesting copies where required and liaising with suppliers and budget holders to resolve queries. Receipt, reconciliation and input of commercial bar returns, posting and reconciling commercial income, maintaining, recording and reconciling the catering agreement between Charity and Commercial Services Ltd. Particular attention to ensure that correct VAT reporting and audit processes are adhered to. The post holder will also be involved in placing orders, petty cash, providing cash floats and a wide range of additional finance tasks undertaken by the finance team, including cover for other finance team members.
