The University of West London (UWL) is ranked the best modern* university (non-specialist) in London in the Complete University Guide 2023.

We were also named University of the Year for Student Experience and Teaching Quality in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023, being described by the editor as “regularly among the top-performing universities” and proving that “it is possible for a London-based institution to achieve outstanding levels of student satisfaction beyond other universities”.

  • University status awarded in or after 1992

The UWL pre-registration BMidwifery, Midwife Degree Apprenticeship, MMidwifery (3 year), and MMidwifery (2 year shortened) course curriculums have all been approved against the NMC (2019) Standards for pre-registration midwifery programmes. We also have a wide portfolio of postgraduate courses and continuing professional development opportunities, including doctoral level study. UWL midwifery courses have been awarded WHO/UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Gold accreditation.

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, innovative midwife educator to join our team of dedicated academics to support the delivery of pre and post registration courses in midwifery and healthcare, across both our London and Reading campuses. The successful candidate must be registered with the NMC as a midwife, hold as a minimum a first degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and ideally hold a recognised teaching qualification for Higher Education.

Applicants will need to have knowledge and clinical experience in midwifery care as well as an excellent appreciation of the NMC (2019) Standards of proficiency for midwives. Candidates should demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with students, other academics, clinical practitioners, support and technical staff. You will be expected to assist in the development and delivery of learning materials that are relevant, evidence-based and current in order to maintain the high quality of learning and teaching associated with the college.

Essential to this position will be the ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with healthcare providers in Berkshire and London. You will undertake a link lecturer role and provide educational support for practice supervisors and assessors in clinical practice areas.

If you wish to influence midwifery through high quality education and embed your clinical knowledge and experience of healthcare within higher education, this could be the opportunity for you.

For successful applicants without a relevant teaching qualification, they will join the UWL Academic Professional degree apprenticeship scheme supporting the UK government’s commitment to upskill the UK workforce.
