School of Computing and Engineering Apprenticeships

The School of Computing and Engineering offers a variety of Higher and Degree level apprenticeships. These apprenticeships are a mixture of integrated and non-integrated Apprenticeships. Integrated Apprenticeships is when the University of West London is the End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) and is responsible for managing and conducting the End Point Assessment.

The End Point Assessment Department (EPAD):

The University of West London is the End Point Assessment organisation for the integrated apprenticeship and is fully registered on the Education and Skills Funding Agency Register of End Point Assessment Organisations (RoEPAO). The End Point Assessment department (EPAD) is responsible for the quality assurance of End Point Assessments (EPA) for apprenticeships, ensuring robust internal quality assurance processes in line with the requirements of assessment plans. The department is also responsible for recruiting and training Independent Assessors.

Pathways

The University of West London are seeking for a Lead Independent Assessor to oversee SCE apprenticeships with specific pathways in the Engineering field. The successful candidate will oversee engineering pathways across both level 6 and level 7 apprenticeship standard.

The Role:

The role provides leadership and operational coordination, for the relevant Apprenticeship Standard, to assure oversight of Independent Assessors who have been appointed to the Apprenticeship Standard to assess End Point Assessment (EPA) activities carried out by Apprentices on Higher and Degree Apprenticeships.

The role provides independence and impartiality for the Apprenticeship Standard and requires use of assessment experience with robust industry knowledge to form assessment materials.

The role will be given ongoing support and guidance from the AQSO and the relevant School/College in order to fulfil their role. They will also be expected to attend internal and external events relevant to the Apprenticeship to ensure they are kept up to date with any changes to the Apprenticeship Standard.

The Person:

The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a thorough understanding of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships.
  • Have subject knowledge in the relevant Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Have registration with the relevant PSRB, where applicable.
  • Have the academic requirements as specified, for the Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Understand the standard and assessment plan.
  • Deliver the end-point assessment in line with the EPA plan.
  • Be independent of the apprentice, their employer and training provider(s) i.e. there must be no conflict of interest.
  • Attend the required number of EPAOs standardisation and training events per year.
  • Have competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks appropriate to the subject and operating assessment procedures and/or have been trained in assessment practice.
  • Sufficient standing, credibility and breadth of experience within the discipline to be able to command the respect of academic and, where appropriate, professional peers.
  • Be familiar with the EPA performance expected of apprentices to achieve the award being assessed.
  • Meet applicable criteria set by PSRB, where applicable. If possible, have membership of a professional institute or association appropriate to the level and subject area of the qualification.
  • Have awareness of current developments in the design and delivery of relevant assessments.

The role will be formally approved by the Academic Quality and Standards Office (AQSO), following; successful completion of necessary training, employment checks in relation to conflict of interest and right to work in the UK.

Training requirements:

Lead Independent Assessors will be involved in training provided to Independent Assessors and will also facilitate their own activities, as appropriate. The role holder will be given ongoing support and guidance from the AQSO and the relevant School/College in order to fulfil their role. They will also be expected to attend internal and external events relevant to the Apprenticeship to ensure they keep up to date with any changes to the Apprenticeship Standard.
