This is an exciting role within the statistics team within the RD&I department at UHB. You will be working with healthcare data to support statistical analyses. These analyses will be the basis for research and audit projects led by NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West Midlands, through the Margaret Peters Centre (MPC). The MPC specialise in interrogating routinely collected hospital data. The MPC is a collaboration of academics, clinicians, managers and analysts, and works closely with patients and the public to agree on the priority of the projects to be taken forward.

You will be based within the statistics team in RD&I and will have a mixture of supervised and independent working. You will be given the opportunity to be an author on peer-reviewed publications. The statistics team is a small, friendly, dynamic team with a range of statistical and analytical skills. Main duties, tasks & skills required

You will predominantly be working on audit and research activities. These activities may include:

  • Extracting and analysing complex data to evaluate changes in the healthcare practice.
  • Identifying the most appropriate methodology to analyse data (with help from senior colleagues).
  • Providing interpretations for the results of their analysis (with help from senior colleagues).
  • Learning the governance procedures around these projects.
  • Supporting the drafting of study protocols.

Analytical skills & knowledge

  • Knowledge of a range of statistical/numerical techniques, procedures acquired through qualification to degree level, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Dealing with statistical/analytical queries, assessing whether analyses are robust e.g. investigating data anomalies identified during analyses, instigating corrective action as required.
  • Extraction, processing and validation of data from various data sources.
  • Proficiency in the use of the RD&I department's software tools such as but not limited to; T-SQL, Excel, R and Stata.
  • Provide support to clinical leads on projects as required, and liaise with the different departments to ensure deadlines are met
  • Co-ordinate with other members of the project team to access and assess data.
  • Working with clients and team members to understand project requirements.
  • Draft reports back to the clinical and academic team on the results of the analysis.
