Band 5 PICS Drug Dictionary Officer

Job summary

An exciting opportunity is now available for a PICS Drug Dictionary Officer to support the maintenance and sustainability of the bespoke drug dictionary database at the heart of the Trust's Electronic Health Record (EHR), PICS, Prescribing Communication Information System, at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

The role will entail collaborating with clinicians, project managers, PICS Development team, PICS pharmacists, PICS Project manager, EPR team, Clinicians involved in PICS, IT Support teams. External stakeholder engagement with PICS pharmacists from partner Trusts, EPR systems users.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder is a key member of the PICS EHR development and support team, with a major role in maintaining the content of the complex electronic dictionary of drugs prescribed in the trust's electronic patient record system.

Details of drugs and drug chemotherapy regimens are documented by pharmacists and clinicians for input into the PICS system by the post holder and others. This is often an interactive process requiring the post holder to work with pharmacists and clinicians to resolve queries, inconsistencies, etc.

In a similar manner, other parts of PICS system operation are controlled by configuration tables and the post holder will be involved in the entry of such data using the same processes and tools as for drug dictionary changes.

Extensive testing and checking procedures are required following the entry of this data in order to ensure the information is fit for purpose before transfer to the live system. The post holder, with others, will have significant involvement in this checking process.

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree(preferably science based) or
• Science based A levels plus continuing professional development to degree level.

Experience

• Significant experience working with MS Office Applications via a desk top PC.
• Ability to absorb, interpret and apply new technical concepts.
• Advanced keyboard skills
• Ability to present complex information in an easy to understand manner
• Ability to prioritise and organise work
• Ability to work as a team member
