Our mission is to increase the visibility, use and impact of longitudinal population studies, data and research to ensure that longitudinal evidence is used to address the health, social, economic and environmental challenges facing the UK, now and in the future. CLOSER is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through to 30 September 2024.

About the role

The Head of Training and Capacity Building will ensure CLOSER delivers its TCB objectives and develop a comprehensive long-term vision and plan for CLOSER’s TCB activities. In this post you will manage and ensure the delivery our existing Training and Capacity Building deliverables; review CLOSER’s TCB offer and previous analysis of the needs of the LPS community to produce a comprehensive delivery plan for CLOSER’s long-term (post-2024) TCB programme, in collaboration with the CLOSER Leadership Group and provide TCB expertise and advice to the CLOSER Leadership Group and collaborate with the CLOSER Advisory Committee TCB lead This post is available until 29th February 2024 in the first instance. Interviews will be held on Friday 24th March 2023.

About you

You will have a PhD in a quantitative social science or biomedical science (such as but not exclusively: demography, economics, education, epidemiology, geography, political science, psychiatry, psychology, public health sciences, social policy, sociology, statistics, survey methodology, behavioural sciences, clinical medicine) or equivalent experience. You will also have experience of using longitudinal population study data, or involvement in longitudinal research. For appointment at Grade 9 you will need to demonstrate experience of holding a lead role in developing new or innovative approaches to the pedagogy and management of short courses for professional and/or academic development, and a strong track record of success in securing research or consultancy funds as a lead or co-applicant. Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria. It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
