Role Snapshot…

We are looking for a passionate, creative and enthusiastic individual to work within the Union’s Student Voice department.

You will be responsible for the administration of the Student Representation System within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, liaising with Student Leaders as well as university schools and departments ensuing FMH students’ academic interests are represented effectively.

The role sits within a busy and dynamic department and therefore candidates must have excellent communication and organisational skills with an ability to be flexible and adaptable. The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a representative and democratic environment and a good understanding of student voice. Experience of working in a diverse organisation with the ability to flourish in a fast-paced, student-led environment would be advantageous.

What you’ll be doing…

Academic Experience

• Support the School of Health Sciences to develop an annual student experience plan, working with students and staff from the school to identify priorities, and implement improvements
• Maintain a strong and up-to-date working knowledge of relevant policies, legislation, and national and local issues relating to health sciences education
• Provide bespoke support for Course Reps and student leaders in the Faculty of Medical and Health working to develop their leadership and advocacy skills, and working with relevant staff and Officers across uea(su) to remove barriers to participation
• Ensure that all Course Reps in the Faculty of Medicine and Health receive appropriate training and support to deal with students’ issues, and to prepare for SSLC (Student & Staff Liaison Committees) and other School or Faculty meetings

HSC Student Opportunities

• Support Health Sciences student leaders to identify, promote, and deliver activities and events, including health-specific campaigns
• Develop and deliver welcome activities and social events for all HSC students on across all HSC programmes
• Develop and deliver induction and training sessions for members of Health Sciences academic societies
• Provide ongoing support to Health Sciences academic societies throughout the academic year where necessary.

Student Voice, Education and Equality

• To contribute and support team priorities and project work within the team
• Ensure agreed priorities in the area of liberation, equality and diversity are fully integrated into FMH student experience projects, and to actively identify and remove barriers to participation for students from liberation groups
• To support, coach and develop relevant student staff
• Collaborate and work with elected officers on campaigns and offer advice on University wide issues.

You must have…

• Good general education, typically to the Higher/A level equivalent
• Experience of effectively working with volunteers or equivalent
• Experience of developing and monitoring events, campaigns and projects
• Experience of developing and delivering training
• Understanding of liberation, equality and diversity issues
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong organisational skills
• Understanding and commitment to promoting equal opportunities
• Desire to work within a democratic student led environment
