Penguin Random House Distribution is at the forefront of book distribution in the UK, with a volume throughput of over 140 million books and products per year. We offer a fully integrated book distribution service to our customers through our two warehouse locations in Colchester and Grantham.

We have an excellent opportunity to join the Customer Services Team as an Export Supervisor at our Distribution Centre in Frating, Colchester.

In this role, you will be responsible for all export documentation requirements and process improvements, as well as managing the export team within Customer Service.

You will be the key liaison for any escalations and complex queries from customers and our sales representatives. You will work closely with the Shipping Manager, based in the warehouse, to ensure that customers are receiving the best possible experience, working internally and across external customers.

This role is a great development opportunity for someone working in Export Administration/Coordination or Export Supervision looking for the next step in their career. If you have not directly managed a team before, we will offer training and coaching on the job to develop your people management skills.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Being the expert in all export related activity – ensuring documentation is correct and processes are adhered to.
  • Managing the export team (with one direct line report), ensuring that they are meeting and exceeding all service levels.
  • Ensuring orders are released to the warehouse to meet warehouse and freight forwarder timescales
  • Implementing relevant changes eg Brexit, customs and country specific rules
  • Establishing key communication channels internally and externally to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled within timescales
  • Deal with complex and sensitive customer and sales representative’s escalations, working with the Shipping Manager to resolve
  • Analysing data and demonstrating improvements to service for our customers and sales representatives
  • Attends sales meetings to understand future growth and development areas, ensuring that the customer service and warehouse teams are suitably trained and resourced to meet changing demands.
  • Attends meetings with freight forwarders and delivery partners (as needed)

You’ll have experience of working within export and will have good knowledge of export requirements and documentation. A confident and clear communicator who has previously negotiated and influenced key stakeholders. You will have team management experience or be keen to learn and develop your people management skills.

We’re currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. While our offices are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility about where you work is just as important for doing your best work and for your wellbeing.

For this role, you will need to be in our offices in Frating at least twice a week. We are open to discussing the exact balance of office to remote working through the recruitment process.

What you can expect from us:

Salary
: £28,000 - £30,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
