Job Introduction

Surrey County Council is committed to the development of its workforce and as such this role is only available to applicants who already work for Surrey County Council. We thank you for your interest in Surrey County Council and would encourage you to review our current vacancies which are available to all.

Surrey County Council’s Adult Social Care Service is looking for enthusiastic Newly Qualified Social Workers to join our new 2023 Autumn Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) cohort.

For your first year in practice, our established ASYE programme will provide you with the opportunity to develop your Social Work professional identity. Our ASYE forum groups will offer you networking opportunities and regular meetings with the other Newly Qualified Social Workers in the cohort. Your professional development will be reviewed at regular intervals enabling you to receive feedback about your practice as you progress through the year. The programme offer also includes protected development time, reduced caseload and an enhanced frequency of supervision. All of which, support you to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence as you transition into practice within an adult social care setting.

We are looking for newly qualified professionals who share the same values and ethos as we do. We want Social Workers who believe it is important to promote people’s independence and wellbeing through personalised care and support that focuses on their strengths, the outcomes they want to achieve and enables choice and control.

You will be based in one of the county’s Adult Social Care Locality Teams, one of our community or specialist Mental Health teams, one of our Learning Disability and Autism Teams, Transitions Team, or in one of our five acute Hospital Teams.

We will talk to successful candidates about preferences and team locations.

An ASYE assessor will be identified prior to the start of your ASYE programme. You will be supported by your ASYE assessors and coordinators to gain an understanding of what you need to do to successfully complete your ASYE.

To be shortlisted to interview, your CV will clearly evidence:

  • You are currently on course to successfully complete the final year of a Social Work degree (or equivalent), or you have successfully completed a Social Work degree (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with Adults and their families
  • You are registered with Social Work England, or you will register with Social Work England upon completion of your Social Work degree.
  • You hold a valid full UK driver's license and have access to a vehicle.
  • You have fully answered the three supplementary questions

Successful applicants may have the opportunity to work in an unqualified social care post prior to registration with Social Work England.
