Sensing Change is a team within the Adult and Community Services (ACS), Suffolk County Council. We provide a range of services to people with sight and/or hearing loss throughout Suffolk, which include Social Work and Assessment, Vision Rehabilitation and a Support Service. The aim of our service is to focus on early intervention and prevention, enabling individuals to maintain and increase their independence.

We are currently seeking three Vison Independence Practitioners to work directly with people with sight loss or dual sensory loss. This post gives you great opportunities to progress your career within the service.

The role is countywide with an office base at Endeavour House, Ipswich IP1 2BX.

Your role and responsibilities

You will:
  • assess, plan and deliver low level independence skills to people with sight loss or dual sensory loss
  • offer information, advice, guidance and support to enable people with sight loss to live as independently as possible
  • support individuals, carers and their families and work alongside colleagues within Sensing Change and ACS, as well as partner organisations when required
  • be provided training to further develop skills that could lead to a qualification.
You will need:
  • a good standard of education
  • awareness of the needs of people with sight and/or hearing loss
  • the ability to verbally explain and describe accurately
  • the ability to work as an effective, reliable, flexible and supportive team member
  • a passion for improving the lives of people who access our services.
If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all the requirements, please apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The team

Sensing Change is a well-established, dedicated and supportive team with lots of experience, enthusiasm and passion for promoting the needs of people with sight and/or hearing loss. We will nurture and develop your existing skills to focus on sensory need and will provide training leading to qualifications in this interesting and specialist area of work. We are looking forward to welcoming new staff to a number of posts, which are available at various locations across the Suffolk.
