We provide solutions and products for railway signal systems and electrification, and apps and back-end systems for intermodal mobility. We are the market leader in main line and mass transit rail automation, railway control systems, mobile and fixed telecommunications, electrification technology, SCADA and station systems, and intermodal solutions.
This opportunity is part of the East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) team within Siemens Rail Infrastructure. Government funding more than £1Bn in digital signalling has been announced by the Transport secretary in July 2022 for the ECDP Framework. This involves deploying state of the art European Train Control System technology on the East Coast Mainline, creating the next generation railway. It will transform the capability of the south section of the East Coast Main Line, one of Britain’s busiest rail routes, improving performance and safety through the introduction of digital signalling. The programme is split into 12 phases, to be delivered by 2030. This programme is a once in a generation opportunity to improve and transform how the railway works for passenger and freight users.
This programme is the first deployment of digital signalling on an intercity main line railway in the UK and lays the foundation for further deployment across the network, creating a more capable and more efficient railway.
The programme is trail blazing a new path for Network Rail and its suppliers, as well as train and freight operating companies to collaboratively work together in a transformative and collaborative industry model. This is also a step change for Network Rail working to a thin client model, with many responsibilities discharged to Siemens Mobility and the wider supply chain. The Challenge
Begin your journey with us whilst taking part in our fantastic graduate development programme. We will create an individual training plan to help you develop the specific skills and knowledge required for your role. By the end of it, you will be set up with the best knowledge and hands-on experience to equip you for your professional career in Siemens.
Some day to day activities would include:
- Work closely with Project teams in their delivery of Environmental, Health and Safety duties and compliance.
- Build solid professional relationships with the clients and other contractors HSE team on projects.
- Provide adequate support to health and safety plans, risk assessments, work package plans, briefing notes and EHS site induction.
- Provide advice and guidance on welfare, fire safety and first aid.
- Ensure swift communications of any close calls, potential unsafe conditions to the project and escalate as need be.
- Strongly support and complete EHS inspections of the workplace. Drive cultural monitoring activities in the business and seek opportunities to mentor.
- Ensure correct reporting and recording is completed.
- Plan and deliver audits and ensure any actions are chased up to completion.
- Provide guidance on Occupational Health and work with our Occupational Health team on any campaigns.
- Support the sustainability team on the corporate and project-based sustainability goals.
- Ensure reporting of KPI’s to the company and client.
The Candidate
We are looking for innovative and inquisitive candidates that demonstrate the following:
- Achieved or be on track to achieve a 2:2 or above in a relevant engineering degree such as railway engineering, electrical & electronics, telecommunications, computer science, control systems, general engineering, data science/ analytics, engineering management, AI or AR, automotive or mechanical engineering.
- You think logically and are willing to self-learn and research and take a creative approach to problem solving
- You can work independently, safely and responsibly; take ownership of challenges and ideas and are looking to develop your ability to drive and lead change
- You enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions
