As Claims Expert in Specialty Claims, the role holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a portfolio of claims including construction (first and third party), property and energy. Primarily adjusting complex claims above an underlying value threshold. This will include compliance with claims guidelines, advising on case strategy and expert management. The role holder will work with Practice Leaders, including those from other segments, in the handling of claims that may be required to support the business.

The role holder will work closely with other members of Specialty Claims and SCOR Claims Management to ensure that claims handling reflects SCOR’s current best practices. As a claims technical expert, they will bring sector knowledge, provide support to the underwriting teams and contribute towards SCOR taking an enhanced position on relevant risk transfer programmes. They will provide guidance on developing trends across complex claims within the Specialty Claims portfolio. They will work with colleagues to ensure that claims handling within the segment is a consistent process. From time to time the role holder will support first party and Portfolio Claims in the handling of complex claims in London and in other hubs.


  • Managing a portfolio of claims: assess and evaluate policy liability and to calculate reserve exposures and negotiating settlement of claims to successful conclusion
  • Operate collegiately as part of the Specialty Claims Expert team, working with Senior Claims Experts and Practice Leaders
  • Provide support to other lines of business as and when required
  • Liaise, co-ordinate and support Portfolio Claims in relation to claims handling, as well as providing technical input in establishing infrastructure to manage delegated arrangements.
  • Participate in operational performance reviews and establish a culture of continuous improvement to support the overall Single Risk claims strategy of providing a “Centre of Excellence” in claims
  • Take an active role in working with SCOR underwriters to provide claims feedback and support to assist on developing casualty, construction and other books of business
  • Working with, and independently of, underwriting to develop and maintain client relationships with responsiblity for key accounts
  • Represent SCOR and the claims department internally and externally including review meetings with brokers and/or policy holders
  • As needed, participate in managing Specialty claims response to defined major risk events
  • Develop appropriate relationships and understandings with the Claims Analyst personnel globally to co-ordinate claims response for all segments
  • Conduct peer reviews and audits
  • Take an active role on market initiatives for the betterment of SCOR
  • Work within SCOR ethical and service standards as well as fulfilling compliance and regulatory requirements

Experience:

  • Several years experience in a claims handling role with a bias towards mid to complex claims. The candidate must be able to demonstrate consistent continuing successes and have strong external recognition in the claims market within an underwriting, service provider or broking organisation
  • Proven specialist technical capability together with applied practical and commercial business skills
  • Established and authoritative network and relationships with clients, brokers, underwriting and market communities
  • In-depth expertise in claims handling as a leader
  • Comprehensive understanding and detailed knowledge of specialist product line, the insurance market and competitors

  • Required Education
  • Legal, engineering, Insurance or other specialist professional qualification desirable.
  • French Language skills are desirable.
