It is an exciting time to be joining Public Health Wales Microbiology. In September 2020 we dramatically expanded our workforce and the way Microbiology services are delivered. Public Health Wales Microbiology consists of a network of laboratories currently based at 7 sites across Wales and an additional 5 hot lab sites.
You will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales following significant investment in new technology and staff. We aim to provide a responsive, modern, rapid diagnostic service for the people of Wales.
We are currently seeking to recruit Band 6 (or Band 5) Biomedical Scientist (dependent on qualifications) at our Aberystwyth Laboratory.
This post is to support the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases service delivered by the Public Health Wales Infection Service. The post will involve practising as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist processing and reporting patient specimens as part of the microbiology diagnostic service, providing information to support the management of patients with infections.
The post holder works as a Biomedical Scientist and contributes to service delivery under the supervision of Senior Biomedical Scientists.
To undertake aspects of diagnostic laboratory work within the Microbiology department.
To achieve and demonstrate a level of practical ability and academic knowledge sufficient to satisfy and maintain the requirements of professional registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
The post holder will work as part of the laboratory team, where appropriate liaising with medical staff, other laboratory staff, hospital/Trust staff, customers and members of the public.
The Public Health Wales Microbiology regions are part of an all-Wales Microbiology network that provides support for Health Protection across Wales. As such you could be required at short notice to respond to public health emergencies, including outbreaks and other emergency situations.
After competency assessment, participation in out of hours and oncall rotais expectedwhere appropriate remuneration will be given.
