Do people look to you to Get Stuff Done? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a love of problem solving and data?

We’re looking for an organised and proactive assistant to join our Operations and Managing Editorial team on a fixed-term contract basis for approximately 12 months.

About the Operations and Managing Editorial Children’s team

As part of the wider Penguin Random House Children’s division: Operations support the creative teams and processes that underpin our business, making sure that our creative colleagues are on track to get a book published in stores and online, with all the right information to market it well; Managing Editorial take our books through the copy-editing and proofreading process from manuscript to printed book, ensuring that high editorial standards are met according to schedule and within budget.

The opportunity

This role will primarily support the Editorial and Design teams, but also work closely with Marketing, Rights, Sales, Publishing Operations and Finance. It will provide an opportunity to work across the full breadth of the Children’s division and publishing, allowing you to develop a detailed understanding of how the Publishing industry works and to kick start your career in Publishing.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing vital administrative support to the Operations and Managing Editorial team, including organising key departmental meetings, pulling together presentation packs and reports, compiling and circulating agendas and minutes, and coordinating diaries
  • Ensuring our internal information and data is accurate and up to date, ready to share with retailers who sell our books online and in store across the world
  • Liaising with colleagues across the business to become the main point of contact for Children’s Operations and Managing Editorial team queries
  • Becoming an expert and business champion for our publishing system, Biblio, which is the main database for all our title information

What you’ll bring

You don’t need Publishing experience for this role, and we’ll provide you with all the necessary support and training to succeed. We are looking for:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you’ll be working with a wide range of people on a regular basis
  • A keen interest in dealing with data, as you’ll be working with our publishing and internal systems daily
  • Excellent attention to detail for both data-focused and word-focused responsibilities
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Adaptability and initiative
  • Confidence working with Word, Excel and PowerPoint (or similar applications)

How to apply

If you’re ready to join the Operations and Managing Editorial team as our Assistant, then please submit your CV and a cover letter by midnight on Sunday 14 May.

As part of your cover letter, we’d like for you to answer the following question (in no more than 200 words):

Please give us an example of a time you've used initiative in a professional environment and what the results were.

Our hybrid working approach

All interviews will be a mixture of in person and virtual. While our offices are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility about where you work is just as important for doing your best work and for your wellbeing. For this role, there are meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person at our offices in Embassy Gardens. We are open to discussing the exact balance of office to remote working through the recruitment process.

What you can expect from us:

Salary: You‘ll start on £26,500. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role (if the role is extended) to reflect your growing contribution.

Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:

  • 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
  • Medical cover
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Summer working hours (role dependent)
  • Volunteering policy and charity matching
  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Mentoring programme
  • Extended gender neutral parental leave
  • Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
  • Each site has trained mental health first aiders
  • We plant a tree for every new employee to our business

Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we're part of the offer an interview scheme. This is where disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role can opt in to get to the next recruitment stage. There may be some situations where volume of applicants means we can't take all eligible candidates to interview.

We want to make sure disabled applicants can be their best at each step of the recruitment journey. If you need adjustments during the application process, we encourage you to get in touch with us at http://PRHCareersUK@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk. Remember, you only need to share what you are comfortable to for us to support your adjustment request.
