Key responsibilities and duties:

Within this role at Overt, you will be responsible for assisting with maintaining the infrastructure, network and security operations of our organisation. You will be communicating with several departments to ensure they are able to undertake and carry out their job role effectively, along with speaking to customers about any issues escalated from our product support departments.

As our Infrastructure Apprentice your regular duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Offer 1st line escalated infrastructure support and solve or escalate problems correctly.
  • Ensure customers receive superior service through availability of our existing infrastructure.
  • Providing a friendly and helpful first point of contact for our staff.
  • Collaborate with various departments and engineering teams to assist with their departmental objectives.
  • Gain sufficient knowledge of Overt Software's products.
  • Following Overt guidelines to Install and configure end-user software and hardware.
  • To set up new computers for employees and actively maintain IT systems through software updates.
  • Helping end-users with issues they experience on local devices.
  • Proactively monitoring servers through our monitoring platform.
  • Cyber security aspects. Reviewing vulnerability scanning, penetration tests and assisting on overall management of security, ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability.
  • Assisting with compliance to various legislation and frameworks we follow.
  • Track key metrics so you know what’s working and where to improve.
  • Leverage feedback for continuous improvement to the overall management and deployment of system and network Infrastructure.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the department's operational objectives.
  • Ensure IT organisational best practices, standards and guidelines are followed and to be kept up to date via training and APDR (Annual Personal Development Review)
  • Assist with cyber security aspects, ensuring (CIA) confidentiality, integrity and availability of Overt services.

Applicant specifications:

Education: A minimum of 5 GCSE's -grade C or above in Maths, English and IT or a Science related role.

Desirable experience: With Linux (Redhat-based and Debian distributions), Windows client, and Windows servers. Supporting end users and clients with issues by troubleshooting systems and networks. Docker, scripting, or programming, knowledge of bash, python or php scripting.

Personal qualities: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, excellent organisational skills, a High level of attention to detail and the ability to work calmly under pressure and to deadlines, pro-active, resourceful, and inquisitive nature.
