This is a team that has "a glowing reputation for commercial litigation" (Chambers & Partners)

Due to continued growth we have an exciting new opportunity for lawyers to join our well regarded and successful Commercial Disputes team at Associate level in our Thames Valley (Reading) office.

The practice

Osborne Clarke's litigation practice provides a full range of commercial dispute and specialist risk management services, both nationally and internationally.

Led by two partners with a City background, our Thames Valley-based team handles strategically important, highly complex, cross-border disputes and investigations for an extensive client base consisting of major international companies, as well as fast growth PE and VC backed businesses. The team also continue to carry out work for high quality regional, City and international clients, and is recognised as a "go to" choice for difficult issues requiring both top-ranked legal expertise and commercial and strategic judgment.

The team has a particularly strong reputation for disputes in the technology and life sciences sectors, Private Equity / Venture Capital and other corporate finance issues, corporate disputes (including post-transaction and shareholder and boardroom governance disputes), commercial fraud, investigations and work in the anti-bribery and corruption sphere.

Market-leading companies trust the team with their commercial litigation needs. Examples include Oracle Corporation, Facebook, Vodafone, Epicor, TiVo Corporation, Hyundai, Wireless Logic, ASOS, Tripadvisor, Content Guru, Redwood Technologies, Daler-Rowney, Intersurgical, Davies Group, HTC and LDC, PrisymID, ARI Fleet UK, Barloworld, and Intuit to name but a few. The team continues to win new clients, both leading multinational companies and fast growth SMEs.

The team in Thames Valley is fully integrated into a fast-growing national and international network which includes a rapidly-expanding London office. The team has particular expertise in confidential international arbitration and cross-border disputes, and at any one time is acting on a number of matters involving various jurisdictions around the world.

The team

Headed by highly- respected corporate litigator Peter Sheppard, and bolstered at partner level more recently by the lateral hire of corporate disputes and investigations specialist Jane Park-Weir, Osborne Clarke's Thames Valley team handles strategically important, highly complex, cross-border and national disputes. Members of the team frequently work on a cross-office basis with other team members in Bristol and London, as well as with teams across Osborne Clarke's international network.

The department is growing, increasing the breadth and depth of its expertise and resource, as part of the overall strategic growth of Osborne Clarke's Thames Valley office and the firm as a whole.

Technical skills and experience

We are looking for evidence of broad knowledge and experience in this area and for potential to excel.

Due to the nature of the work and practice we are looking to appoint an Associate, however we are happy to consider applicants with more or less experience. We are happy to consider NQ-level solicitors.

Your career development

Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:

  • clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
  • high quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
  • thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
  • robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you; and
  • reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
