Our people work differently depending on their jobs and needs. From hybrid working to flexible hours, we have plenty of options that help our people to thrive.

This role is based in the United Kingdom and as such all normal working days must be carried out in the United Kingdom.

Join us as our Open Source Program Lead

  • We’ll look to you to lead and grow our Centre of Excellence (CoE), while setting its standards and policies to make sure they align with the strategic outcomes of our IT operating model
  • Day-to-day, you’ll be line managing a team of specialist professionals to drive the creation and amendment of the standards and policies adhered to by our CoE
  • This is an exciting opportunity to work with all levels of our bank and leave a lasting impact here and on the global engineering community

What you’ll do

Working in our Engineering team, you’ll be leading our Open Source and Inner Source Programme Office to create colleague and community works, promote software co-creation, manage open source risk and maximise consumption.

Alongside this, you’ll be increasing our contribution to external projects and communities, like FinOS, Todo Group, OpenUK and the Linux Foundation, to support our bank, extend our brand and increase the quality of software that we leverage.

Your top priorities will include:

  • Ensuring the CoE is operating in line with industry leading practices and trends and delivering commercial cost saving opportunities through an increased open source consumption
  • Governing, implementing and adhering to the CoE’s standards, principles and policies
  • Making sure that a knowledge repository is created and updated with the latest information, lessons learnt and industry best practices
  • Utilising open source across our entire bank to deliver compliant licensing, inventory, developer education and security awareness
  • Creating an excellent inner source culture for our engineers while driving, recognising and rewarding good collaborative practices
  • Working with our engineering, legal, security, business operations and public relations teams to define what open source at our bank means
  • Developing our open source and inner source vision and strategy

The skills you’ll need

To be successful in this role, you’ll come with a background in software engineering, design and architecture and have a track record of open source engagement, contribution and consumption.

Additionally, you’ll need an excellent understanding of implementing open source programme office (OSPO) best practices, especially around organisation design, influence, controls and community engagement. Having worked within or led an OSPO previously would be advantageous.

Furthermore, you’ll need:

  • Experience of working with industry and community functions and building good relationships
  • A background of driving and influencing change within large technology organisations
  • An understanding of how to quantify impacts and contributions across teams
  • Knowledge of how to use industry recognised frameworks and development tooling

If you need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, or if you’re eligible under the Disability Confident Scheme please contact us and we’ll do everything we can to help.
