The Privacy Counsel/Senior Counsel will support the execution of risk management and privacy and regulatory compliance initiatives across the enterprise. Successful individuals in this role can manage multiple projects simultaneously, are autonomous and self-motivated team players with a keen interest in privacy law, possess superior communication skills, and have excellent project management skills. You will be reporting to Mistplay’s Director and Senior Counsel, Regulatory, Product and Compliance.
What you’ll do at Misplay
- You will help Mistplay ensure the highest standard of privacy for our organization and for our customers and end users.
- You will have the opportunity to serve as a privacy subject matter expert.
- Create/maintain/communicate compliance standards, policies and procedures and ensure that these artifacts are disseminated, understood and implemented across the business as part of the ongoing evolution of Mistplay’s privacy program.
- You will work hand in hand with cross-functional stakeholders to design new features and services in line with applicable privacy laws and best in class privacy controls.
- You will support customer care escalations, audits and regulatory exams.
- You will help draft and negotiate data protection agreements, as well as provide guidance to the legal team and to business partners on related matters.
- You will provide strategic guidance to commercial transactions team and assist in negotiation of appropriate of privacy and data protection terms in commercial contracts.
- You will assist with ongoing review and update of internal training on legal and regulatory requirements relating to privacy, and act as a point person for privacy questions for both legal teammates and the broader organization.
What you’ll bring to Mistplay
- Substantive data protection and data privacy experience and an in-depth knowledge of Canada, U.S. and EU privacy statutes – including CAN-SPAM, PIPEDA, CCPA and GDPR.
- Relevant experience at a law firm or legal department for a technology company, preferably in the mobile, gaming, loyalty, digital services, and/or ad tech industries.
- Experience standardizing policies, protocols and training programs.
- Strong work ethic and executive function skills, including the ability to work independently, make decisions, and exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to travel occasionally (up to 10% of the time).
- Admission to practice in the state/province in which you live (if remote) or in Quebec, Canada.
- Certification provided by the IAPP or similar bodies (a plus).
