These are exciting times for the Mersey Care Medicines Management Team: we have recently been successful in securing an initial £800K investment from the Executive Team to support the development of a new team structure and delivery of a new standard of medicines optimisation across the Trust.

We are looking for two enthusiastic, motivated staff to join the team as pre-registration training pharmacy technicians (PTPT) to contribute to our new team. As a PTPT you would join us for a two-year Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship programme to understand, learn and implement the skills required to become a registered pharmacy technician.

We would welcome applications from anyone with an interest in science or an aspiration to work in medicines management or those who would like to further their career in medicines management.

Shortlisting date is planned for 17th April 2023

Interview date is planned for 24th April 2023

Our PTPTs support medicines supply throughout the Trust in the dispensary, stores & distribution, ward based services and primary care-GP practices. You will be an excellent communicator, be caring and passionate about patients, and be able to adapt to working with colleagues of all levels. We want you to be committed to maintain excellent patient care, through continually improving the quality of the service. You need to be enthusiastic, flexible, and have good time & workload management skills. You need to be able to evaluate & change priorities at short notice to meet the needs of the service.

During your training, you will complete your Accuracy Checking training. You would be involved in supporting the efficient running of the dispensary, helping to prioritise work & solve problems. You will rotate between the mental health in-patient wards and primary care & physical health team, including primary care medicines management & medicines optimisation work and in-patient medical work on 4 intermediate care wards. The ward work focuses on developing medicines reconciliation skills, optimising the use of patients’ own drugs, minimising drug waste and improving medicines governance.

Although these are fixed term posts, the new team is committed to developing our future workforce. We will ensure that you have regular management and clinical supervision and an annual appraisal. We will support you to develop personally and professionally for your future role with the Trust.

Mersey Care is one of the largest trusts providing physical health and mental health services in the North West, serving more than 11 million people.

We offer specialist inpatient and community services that support physical and mental health and specialist inpatient mental health, learning disability, addiction and brain injury services. Mersey Care is one of only three trusts in the UK that offer high secure mental health facilities.

At the heart of all we do is our commitment to ‘perfect care’ – care that is safe, effective, positively experienced, timely, equitable and efficient. We support our staff to do the best job they can and work alongside service users, their families, and carers to design and develop future services together. We’re currently delivering a programme of organisational and service transformation to significantly improve the quality of the services we provide and safely reduce cost as we do so.

Our ambition is to deliver perfect care to become the world’s leading organisation in holistic health and well being.

Mersey Care’s vision and values of Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Respect, Enthusiasm and Support (CARES) drive our organisation and the way we work together to deliver services. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate, during recruitment and any subsequent employment with the Trust, that their behaviour supports our values.

Four GCSE’s at grade C or above (New level 4-9) in English Language, Maths, Science and one other subject.
