This is an excellent career opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic UKAS accredited regional Immunology department. We provide diagnostic and clinical services across Lancashire and South Cumbria and have strong academic links with HEIs .
The ideal candidate will have experience of diagnostic immunology, be enthusiastic and keen to make a difference to patient care. They will have a knowledge of quality management systems and will be HCPC registered.
The department is exceptionally well equipped under a MSC covering autoimmunity, allergy, immunochemistry and flow cytometry.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals, to join a well-established friendly team, working within a modern, well equipped, fully UKAS 15189 accredited laboratory.

Applications will be accepted from candidates with accredited degrees working towards their HCPC registration portfolios.

You will provide a high quality pathology service, support and assist in the development of other departmental staff in the team and professionals within the multidisciplinary team.

You will ensure their own personal development, undertaking training to achieve the required knowledge and competence of the range of analyses to express the ability of the biomedical scientist to operate at the practitioner level.

Performance of routine and urgent immunology laboratory investigations and techniques. Result recording and inputting.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:
  • To direct more junior staff regarding technical and work issues
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries from nurses, clinicians, healthcare practitioners, giving technical advice on results and use of the service
  • Appropriate recording of inventory management within the sections to ensure accurate recording of receipt and issue of stock
  • Work flexibly
  • To assist in effective verbal and written communication by qualified and unqualified staff
  • To communicate, as appropriate, using information technology
  • Report any issues and complaints to appropriate person
  • Performs work duties to the standards required as a HCPC biomedical scientist
  • Undertake the correct procedures for the handling of specimens, pre and post analysis.
  • Maintain and operate equipment used in the preparation and analysis of specimens.
  • Perform a range of laboratory tests autonomously and demonstrate an understanding of the scientific basis for tests and the disease processes under investigation.
  • Demonstrate awareness of factors affecting sample integrity, risks associated with the sample reagents, or method and other tests indicated by the outcome of the analysis.
  • Use the main laboratory computer system in accordance with service requirements
  • The post holder will be required to participate in an annual personal development performance review ensuring highest possible standards of care through commitment to CPD
  • Maintain personal professional competence by on-going training, training in new techniques and instrumentation, update and continued professional development as required and ensure this is recorded appropriately.
