Job Outline:

An exciting and new opportunity has opened within a leading technology company based in North Wales. Qioptiq designs and manufactures photonic products and solutions that serve a wide range of markets and applications. We are looking for a Technician to support the STAS Repair Cell, this will include producing all types of precision components and assemblies to within the defined limits of dimensional accuracy and within planned timeframes, sometimes under the guidance of a Senior Technician, and in accordance with all departmental and company procedures, across a range of machines and processes.

This role is employed as part of the STAS Team in all operational disciplines to ensure operational excellence, high productivity and customer satisfaction of KPIs are achieved.

Key Responsibilities :

• Triage, inspect and repair, were required, all Dismounted Soldier systems equipment, following all relevant routings and processes.
• Ensure component quality is acceptable and dimensions correct to ensure its suitability for further processing.
• Select, inspect and prepare all required tooling to ensure the accurate production of components and assemblies.
• Ensure all component preparatory work is carried out correctly to attain precision components efficiently and minimise expensive component losses.
• Select relevant tooling and equipment to attain the most effective method of producing high quality precision components.
• Ensure that the required quality and operating standards are satisfied throughout each stage of manufacture to achieve optimum quality.
• Set up of relevant machinery to ensure efficient production of precision components.
• Inspect the components being worked throughout the operation and decide on alterations required to achieve the finished component.
• Re-work of damaged components when possible is done in order to recoup potential losses.
• Ensure that the equipment and work area is cleaned and maintained in accordance with the operator’s maintenance schedule and the required departmental standards.
• Support the business needs by participating in ongoing process/business improvement programmes
• Willing to work overtime to meet business and customer needs when required and at short notice.

Personal Specification:

It is essential that all candidates have the following:

A good level of general education (minimum of C grade or above in Maths and English at GCSE level).

• Are well organised and methodical with good attention to detail
• Inquisitive nature who is not afraid to challenge processes and procedures to improve cost reduction, waste and improve processes.
• Ability to interact with a range of people supported by excellent communication skills.
• Experience of working in a team and working independently
• Successful candidates must be able to obtain full SC Clearance

The following attributes are considered desirable, but not essential for the role:

• An understanding of MOD Dismounted Soldier Systems
• General knowledge/use of computers and Excel
• A technical background with strong analytical skills and practical ability
• The ability to work within dynamic project teams and using structured problem solving techniques and providing detail reports on findings
• The ability to liaise with other engineering disciplines on product specifications / performance matters
