Derby City Public Health Department is a forward-looking team with ambitions to significantly improve the health and wellbeing of our city’s population through innovative integrated working that reduces health inequalities.


We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team on a permanent basis. Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment you will have the opportunity to contribute to and lead on key programmes of work aimed at improving local population health. You will be responsible for the development of local strategy, the design of public health services and for creating pathways across health systems. You will be experienced in all aspects of public health/public sector commissioning, specifically in substance misuse commissioning. You will use your skills to contribute to the department’s wider commission strategy and the overall aims of Derby City Council.


The primary function of the role will be to support commissioning activity across the substance misuse agenda leading relevant projects and programmes. The post holder will play a significant role in shaping the market, managing provider relationships, performance management and contract monitoring of services and will be critical to the local implementation of the national drugs strategy, From Harm to Hope.


You will have substantial public health practical and theoretical knowledge. With the ability to work as part of a team that meets tight deadlines, you will have an innovative and flexible approach to your work and be committed to delivering excellence


The successful candidate will have experience of substance misuse commissioning, excellent communication skills, be a resilient, highly motivated, pro-active and organised individual who is able to work well with a wide variety of colleagues and partner organisations. You will also be willing and able to develop and change your work areas according to the needs of the department.
