Senior Community Manager (FTC)

<p><em>This is a fixed term contract until 31st December 2026 initially, with likelihood of extension.</em></p> <p>This role is part of our eBay Inhouse team, where you will be employed by DEPT® but embedded within eBay.</p> <p><strong>JOB PURPOSE</strong></p> <p>At eBay, what happens in culture is often reflected in what people are buying and selling. As a cultural barometer, we have a unique opportunity to use social media to connect with communities in relevant, authentic and meaningful ways.</p> <p>We're looking for a culture-obsessed Social Community Manager to help make eBay a brand people want to engage with, talk about and champion. You'll combine best-in-class community management with proactive social storytelling, ensuring eBay has an active, engaging presence across our organic social channels.</p> <p>You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day community engagement, publishing content, identifying reactive opportunities, monitoring social conversations and creating platform-native content that keeps eBay relevant within culture. Working closely with Social, PR, Customer Service and agency partners, you'll turn social insights into meaningful engagement whilst protecting and evolving the eBay brand.</p> <p>The ideal candidate is customer-obsessed, culturally curious, an exceptional copywriter and thrives in a fast-paced social environment where trends move quickly and opportunities appear every day.</p> <p><strong>WHAT YOU’LL DO:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Be the voice of eBay across our organic social channels—present, authentic and human.</li> <li>Monitor conversations, mentions and audience sentiment across social platforms.</li> <li>Write timely, engaging responses that build relationships and foster community.</li> <li>Proactively engage with creators, sellers, communities and relevant third parties.</li> <li>Identify opportunities to spark conversation and increase community participation.</li> <li>Schedule/Publish approved organic content across eBay UK and eBay Live UK social channels.</li> <li>Develop reactive social content in response to cultural moments, PR activity, breaking news and trending conversations.</li> <li>Track emerging trends, audience conversations and community sentiment.</li> <li>Identify reactive opportunities, creator partnerships and user-generated content opportunities.</li> <li>Bring social trends, platform updates and cultural insights into regular team planning and newsroom sessions.</li> <li>Produce regular community and sentiment reporting with actionable recommendations.</li> <li>Moderate community conversations in line with agreed guidelines.</li> <li>Remove spam, bot activity and harmful content.</li> <li>Escalate reputational risks, sensitive conversations and customer issues where appropriate.</li> <li>Maintain eBay's tone of voice and brand standards across every interaction.</li> <li>Work closely with Social, PR, Customer Service and agency partners to ensure consistent messaging and appropriate escalations.</li> <li>Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for social-first storytelling.</li> <li>Contribute ideas that improve creative development, community engagement and social performance.</li> </ul> <p><strong>WHAT YOU BRING:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience managing social communities for a major brand or agency.</li> <li>Hands-on experience across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, Reddit and emerging platforms.</li> <li>Exceptional copywriting skills and the ability to adapt tone of voice across channels.</li> <li>Experience creating platform-native social content, particularly in TikTok.</li> <li>Strong understanding of internet culture, trends, memes, creators and online communities.</li> <li>Experience using social publishing, listening and community management tools.</li> <li>Excellent judgement when managing sensitive conversations and protecting brand reputation.</li> <li>Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate community conversations into actionable insights.</li> <li>Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.</li> <li>Strong organisation with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to emerging opportunities.</li> <li>A collaborative mindset with a proactive, creative approach to problem solving.</li> <li>Passion for social media, culture and
