Job Introduction

We are delighted to announce that we are looking for Paralegal’s to join our recoveries team in Birmingham and Bristol on a permanent or 6 months fixed term contract. You will have an excellent opportunity to develop your legal skills, knowledge and career in our Triage, Motor Recoveries and Property Recoveries teams.

o Our Triage team is key for direct client contact and preliminary assessment of claim prospects.

o Motor Recoveries and Property Recoveries will allow you to develop your technical ability across a number of perils: RTA, impact, escape of water, escape of oil, product liability, defective premises, accidental damage, fire, contribution or enforcement.

o A recovery claim is challenged on a number of grounds including liability, causation and quantum. As part of the small claim centre of excellence, you will progress your own cases through pre-action and litigation. As part of the recoveries (DA) team, you will handle your own caseload of Fast & Multi-Track matters, including liability disputes and a variety of litigated and pre-litigated work. Joining our teams will give you the opportunity to build on your experience, legal knowledge and career within a supportive team and an ambitious firm.

Please see attached PDF for further information on the team and the firm.

As well as offering high levels of flexibility and a great work life balance, we offer a well-rounded remuneration package (which includes private medical insurance, income protection insurance and discounted gym membership, amongst many other benefits) alongside real opportunities for growth and progression. We actively encourage colleagues to make use of our professional funding scheme to complete legal or business qualifications relevant to your role.

At DAC Beachcroft our Flex Forward policy means that we have relaxed core hours and colleagues are able to flex their hours across the day and week. For more information please review the following link - https://jobs.dacbeachcroft.com/whats-in-it-for-you/

There are regular in person and remote social events organised for colleagues at DAC Beachcroft , not to mention the opportunity to get involved in a range of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) activities, including volunteering or becoming an ally for one of our inclusion and diversity or business network groups.

We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, which aligns closely to our cultural principles (Determined, Clear, Creative and Supportive). If you are excited about this role and being part of our culture, but your past experience does not align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!

Main Responsibilities

You are expected to provide a timely, professional and high-quality service to our clients in the management of pre-litigated and litigated recovery cases. Depending on your role, and with the support of a supervisor and team manager you will be expected to:

  • Screen matters for prospects and liaise with clients upon receipt of instructions.
  • Review instructions and provide client advice on case prospects.
  • Be responsible for a varied caseload of pre-litigated and litigated work.
  • Assess liability and quantum and develop an appropriate strategy for the case.
  • Resolve claims through negotiation and litigation within client service standards.
  • Instruct experts and counsel, draft Witness Statements and other Court documents.
  • Maintain contact with our clients and their Customers whilst proactively managing their expectations.
  • Meet individual performance measures (financial performance, realisation rates and other KPIs).
  • Ensure that the DAC Beachcroft brand and standards are maintained.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Relevant experience in a similar role or in an insurance environment is desirable but not essential and we are happy to hear from graduates who are team players and have the passion for learning.
  • Ability to structure your time well, prioritise work effectively and recognise when to ask for help.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with clients, intermediaries and colleagues.
  • Ability to critically look at factual evidence, identify key legal arguments and apply the same.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm with a professional attitude.
  • Commercial awareness, resilience and confidence.
  • Demonstrates alignment with the Firm’s Cultural Principles (Clear, Creative, Determined and Supportive).
