Assistant Cook working under the direction of the cook you will assist in the planning, preparation and serving of hot lunches and afternoon tea to up to 40 Visitors each day. You will be expected to do all aspects of the kitchen work including preparation of vegetables, cooking, washing up of utensils and equipment and the daily cleaning of the kitchen. After becoming familiar with the ways of working and the menu's you would be expected to comfortable covering for the Cook for periods of holidays and other absences preparing meals with the support of Volunteer kitchen staff.
The COATS menu comprises nutritious, traditional meals geared to the needs and tastes of our senior citizen Visitors.
We are located at the COATS Centre, Pinewood Avenue, Crowthorne, RG45 6RQ
We are looking for someone with experience in a professional kitchen or a competent home cook who is confident cooking food for larger numbers of diners. You should be willing to work as part of the wider COATS team and exhibit high standards and awareness of the requirements for food hygiene within a commercial kitchen environment.
You will be expected to learn and develop in your role and be able to contribute to the running of the kitchen to the point where you will be able to cover for the Cook during periods of absence.
You should have or be willing to to work towards qualifications in Food Hygiene, First Aid, Moving and handling and Safeguarding vulnerable adults. All job related training will be conditionally, funded by COATS. The nature of the role also requires you to undergo a DBS check on commencing employment with COATS.
The role includes a 3 month trial period for both us and you to assess your fit to the role.
The hourly rate will be set based on experience but is significantly above the minimum wage level. We also operate a contributory pension scheme.
