About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF SERENA’S VISION

Growth, Planning and Housing in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where innovative and open-minded people bring everything to the cause. Even expertise from surprising places.

Take Serena. She is an absolute force of nature at the heart of our Church Street regeneration. And she puts the residents first in everything. Serena’s vision is clear. Regeneration isn’t just about bricks and concrete. It’s about communities. It’s about the environment. It’s about the lives of people and how they feel about where they call home. Serena is their advocate, making sure residents’ voices aren’t just heard, but drive the changes we’re making. The future is safe in her hands.

The Role:

As a Property Surveyor, you can make your own powerful contribution. Helping to implement and develop effective systems to inspect the external and communal parts of properties, and identifying requirements for repairs and maintenance, you’ll ensure any work carried out is programmed according to urgency and priority. Working in collaboration with colleagues across Housing Services as you work to improve quality and customer satisfaction, you’ll manage a flexible approach to the deployment of resources, and respond effectively to fluctuations in workload.

We’ll expect you to highlight key investment needs, and help with the development of a team of technical staff to create a professional and high-performance culture. Working effectively with other teams within Housing Services to deliver a seamless, holistic service to customers will be key, as will your commitment to ensuring the Council’s policy for managing the health and safety of residents, staff and contractors is fully implemented.

Your other tasks will be many and varied, and include providing leadership and direction, driving service transformation and ensuring excellent collaborative working with Members and other stakeholders. You’ll also develop new partnerships, both within the council and with our external partners, and be responsible for managing other Property Surveyors and Trainee Property Surveyors.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

With experience of the diagnosis of construction defects, the specification of work and the repair of residential buildings, you’ll have a good understanding of customer needs and the ability to communicate clearly to a range of people, via phone, in writing and face-to-face. Excellent IT skills are vital, as is the ability to manage and administer workflows, produce reports and compile management information.

We’ll expect you to be capable of reviewing performance data and use it to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction, and you should also be ready to manage and administer large repair and maintenance contracts. It’s vital that you have experience of applying the requirements of the CDM Regulations and relevant Health and Safety requirements to refurbishment activities, and the confidence to make complex technical and professional decisions.

You’ll be multi-tasking in a high-pressure environment, so the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work is essential, and as you’ll be working with a wide range of stakeholders and customers, tactful and diplomatic communication skills will also be extremely important.
