The Evidence Quarter Internship programme is back for a third summer! CEI's UK office sits within The Evidence Quarter which is home to a small but growing number of organisations with a passion for finding evidence-led solutions to some of the biggest social challenges facing the UK today.

Overview:

  • Internships will last six to eight weeks and the number of days per week can be flexible
  • Dependent on which organisation you are placed with, the role will be based at The Evidence Quarter offices in the heart of Westminster (SW1H 9EA), with opportunities for hybrid working with line manager agreement
  • Interns will be paid £13.15 per hour
  • Internships start in mid-July.

What the internship will involve:

The particular work an intern would take on will depend on the projects we have on the go, but might involve:

  • General desk research
  • Screening and summarising texts for inclusion in systematic reviews or other evidence synthesis
  • Recruiting participants to studies
  • Designing questionnaires and monitoring information collection
  • Analysing quantitative data
  • Designing qualitative data collection approaches and tools and undertaking qualitative interviews and focus groups
  • Qualitative data analysis
  • Writing reports or summaries for a range of audiences
  • Background research on policy and practice areas and on aspects of implementation science, to support ongoing work or business development
  • Supporting our networking and profile raising, supporting events and conferences

Who can apply:

  • The internship is open to university students from all backgrounds with an interest in working in research, evidence led organisations and making positive changes
  • Applicants can be at any stage in their undergrad or postgrad university studies in any degree programme
  • Enthusiasm and interest in the organisation areas is a must.

If you have any queries regarding the internship programme please contact info-eq@theevidencequarter.com.

Amaka Dominic-Udeagbaja (Intern, 2022) talks about her experience working with CEI:

"I was initially drawn to CEI because they were addressing a wide variety of subject areas I'm most interested in, namely mental health disparities and crime prevention. I could see that an evidence-based approach, global collaboration and social justice were key values at the heart of everything CEI has done from evaluation right through to implementation and that experience with them would be invaluable.

My favourite part of the internship involved interviewing the personnel of a community organisation dedicated to crime prevention. During this, I learnt the origin stories of these groups, what mistakes they had grown from and the long-term impact they were having on young people’s lives.

A key lesson from my tasks and the team as a whole was that meaningful democratization of community projects is fundamental to their success. As someone who wants to continue working in a similar field, this was such a valuable insight on how to make development work as effective as possible."
