Accountabilities:

  • Provide advice and guidance on a range of topics including, but not limited to, sickness absence management, disciplinary / code of employee conduct, grievance, performance improvement, discrimination, bullying and harassment, drugs and alcohol, death in service etc
  • Advising Managers and supporting them with best practice insight to enable a fair and reasonable decisions or applications of policy
  • Manage a high volume of caseload in accordance with departmental service level agreements (SLA’s) and People Policies, seeking support from the HR Business Partner for their respective area and/or the Head of People for complex employee relations & litigation as/if necessary: Supporting People Managers in the handling of the cases including but not limited to:
    • Disciplinary cases up to and including dismissal and appeal,
    • Sickness cases at all levels up to and including potential medical redeployment/ill health dismissal and/or sickness absence Step 3 dismissal; advise on reasonable adjustments,
    • Performance improvement cases at all levels up to and including potential redeployment, PIP and Dismissal
    • Grievance cases at all levels, including discrimination, bullying and harassment
    • Other cases as required including but not limited to: probation, flexible working requests, diversity & inclusion, drugs & alcohol, death in service
  • Ensure outcomes & follow up action are undertaken, updating the case management system, and ensuring transaction of the case to close
  • Provide HR support at formal hearings or meetings as required either by the People Policy or as directed by your Manager or your stakeholder to ensure a robust and customer focussed service
  • Proactive participation in best practice reviews of cases to ensure continuous learning and process improvement
  • Remain flexible to travel when needed across the Cadent owned Gas Distribution Networks and sited location, to support case management activity for customer base and attendance at meetings and hearings.

Qualifications, Technical Skills, Leadership Skills

Qualifications

  • English & Maths GCSE Grade C or equivalent
  • CIPD Level 3 qualified or working toward/relevant experience
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified or working toward/relevant experience (Desirable)
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in HR (Desirable)

Practical Experience

  • Experience of managing a high volume of ER cases in accordance with service level agreements (SLA’s)
  • Experience of guiding, coaching and supporting people managers in complex ER matters
  • An understanding of external good practice i.e. ACAS requirements for policies/processes
  • Experience of supporting formal meetings & hearings
  • Experience of advising on the management of a range of cases including but not limited to:
  • Disciplinary cases
  • Sickness cases
  • Performance improvement
  • Grievance cases
  • Other cases including but not limited to flexible working requests, diversity & inclusion, drugs & alcohol, death in service (Desirable)
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver high quality work in a timely manner
  • Ability to manage a high workload in line with challenging SLA’s
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise work to offer a consistently high level of service
  • Ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively and proactively at all levels in association with case work
  • Ability to confidently challenge current ways of working and influence and encourage change
  • Clear and confident communicator (verbal and written) with the ability to adapt communication style in given situations
  • Delivery & Customer focused
  • Resilient and tenacious
  • Team player focused on value creation
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
