Full time, Permanent

We are seeking to appoint a Director to lead the development and delivery of our strategic vision for Education, Skills and Learning.

The Education and Skills services are on an ambitious transformation journey and play a leading role in helping to create a high performing, inclusive and equitable education, and skills sector in Bristol. Working with a range of key partners, you’ll provide outstanding, citywide leadership to ensure the range of strategic priorities and improvement programmes are delivered.

We are seeking a candidate who is astute in budgetary management and can address concerns over budgetary matters and delivering the required savings, keeping a close eye on our safeguarding responsibilities and making sure we fulfil our legal and moral obligations.

As a sector, we face significant challenges as we strive to improve our performance and respond to the increased demand in services, following the pandemic. Your leadership will not only provide stability, but continue to move the service forward, at pace, in order to secure the best possible outcomes for our citizens.

Your application should demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria, particularly in relation to your experience of the below:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges across the education spectrum, particularly additional and alternative learning provision.
  • Skilled leader with track record of achieving desired outcomes by working / negotiating with stakeholders and by motivating team and internal colleagues to give their best.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges diverse cities like Bristol and the wider public sector face alongside the policy and governance requirements across the function.
  • Strong operational management ability with track record of leading, motivating and managing teams through change to achieve sustained levels of high performance.
  • The ability to build strong partnerships with school leaders across the city.
