Job Introduction

The North East of Scotland is a diverse part of Scotland providing a busy, stimulating news patch. The BBC is looking for a Senior Journalist (Reporter) to work in Aberdeen covering this area to further broaden the range of stories we tell.

You’ll be able to deliver expert, authoritative and creative news coverage as part of a small team covering a large geographical area.

Main Responsibilities

You’ll be required to report for multi-platform outlets prioritising our growing digital audience as well as our established radio and TV listeners and viewers. You will be comfortable working alone or as part of a team in a variety of roles. The job will involve providing high quality material for our online and social media services as well as TV and radio package making, live on-air reporting, writing for radio news bulletins and digital on demand audio bulletins.

You will be able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the news agenda of the North East, as well as having good contacts or the ability to develop them.

The successful candidate will have clear ideas of how digital news services can help us attract and develop new audiences. You will also have lots of story ideas and an ability to identify the under-reported stories affecting people and communities in the area . You will have an understanding of the North East institutions, issues and its diverse range of communities.

You will have in-depth knowledge of the Scottish news agenda and of Scotland's politics and how they might be reflected in the North East.

Are you the right candidate?

The job will require a highly developed ability to tell stories in a way that works on digital platforms as well as significant experience of on-air broadcasting, the use of a range of broadcasting equipment for TV, radio and in-the-field live broadcasting.
