Journalist, Digital Text Formats

Text Formats is a new team looking for a creative journalist who is keen to innovate and help create new ways to tell stories for a digital audience.

The team develops, tests and rolls out new article and story formats for use in News and WS Languages that make our journalism be more accessible and have more impact.

The journalist needs a good understanding of how to tell stories for different audiences and will work closely with the Senior Journalists on the team to brainstorm and develop format ideas. They will also write articles, creating best practice examples of the formats, as well as helping other journalists to use them. They will also collate and understand audience data on how the stories perform.

The team works closely with News, Visual Journalism, Design, D+E, Audiences and Growth.

The successful Journalist will have:

• Significant recent experience as a journalist, sound editorial judgement and understanding of the BBC’s news agenda

• Proven record of writing and producing text articles for a digital audience

• Ability to write creatively and in an engaging way with a style that is appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media

• A good understanding of how to tell stories for different audiences and a good knowledge of audience research and how to use analytics tools
• Effective planning and organising skills with the ability to concentrate on multiple areas of work at one time and delivering to deadlines
• Experience of working in a collaborative way with journalists, web developers and designers
