Job Introduction

BBC Education exists to transform lives through education. That clear vision drives everything we do as we lead the overall education strategy for the BBC.

BBC Education exists to transform lives through education. That clear vision drives everything we do as we lead the overall education strategy for the BBC.

Our aims are to:

  • Provide every child in the UK with a personalised learning experience through BBC Bitesize;
  • Support and inspire classroom learning with world-class, curriculum linked programming; through BBC Teach,
  • Address societal and educational deficits within the UK through campaigns, such as BBC Tiny Happy People.

This autumn the BBC will relaunch 500 Words, the UK’s most successful children’s story writing competition, which celebrates children’s creativity and imagination rather than spelling and grammar. Since it was first launched by Chris Evans on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show in 2011 the competition has received over a million stories written by children.

The competition will be run by BBC Teach and hosted by BBC Breakfast.

BBC Education is recruiting a digital Assistant Producer to join the current team and assist the Producer in the setting up of the competition and it’s day to day running, including the extensive judging process. The role will also involve organising authors visits to schools.

Main Responsibilities

Working closely with the Producer, the Assistant Producer will have the ability and digital experience to set up the competition, oversee the judging process and ensure it runs smoothly. A key part of this role will also be organising authors’ visits to schools and working closely with external partners and suppliers.

The Assistant Producer will be working with external partners and suppliers to achieve this and have strong editorial skills to ensure communications with all our judges is clear and on time.
