Building a sustainable tomorrow

BAM UK & Ireland are recruiting an Internal Communications Manager to help bring to life the purpose and goals for the Division. The role can be based out of any of our UK&I office locations with travel to BAM office and site locations as required.

Your mission

BAM UK & Ireland consists of four core segments: Construction, Civils, Ireland and Ventures.

Communications within the BAM UK & Ireland Division is a core strategic function which drives awareness, understanding and engagement across our diverse audiences. We use insight, knowledge and analysis of our business and our people to engage them with our work and our products and services in the most impactful and effective way. We lead the development of our brand and use our expertise to tell inspiring stories to enhance our reputation, build relationships, engage our staff and demonstrate our impact.

Our communications team’s vision is to win the hearts and minds of our people and stakeholders by engaging them in our purpose and progress – demonstrating how across the UK & Ireland we are supporting BAM’s aims and ambition to build a sustainable tomorrow, and positively contributing to society.
BAM operates a flexible working policy, actively encouraging periods of remote home working and flexibility in start/finish hours to fit into an individual's busy lifestyle. We also have several regional offices.

The successful candidate will understand the strategic importance of internal communications to build clear understanding of our goals, values and advocacy for our business. We need a self-starting energetic communicator, with a hunger to get under the skin of our business to find the stories which are begging to be told.

Main responsibilities

  • Liaise with key stakeholders to co-ordinate communication activity as well as preparing and issuing communications as required
  • Support the Head of Internal Communication, to maintain and deliver communication and engagement strategy and plans
  • To ensure employee communication activity is tracked and managed efficiently in a timely manner, appropriate for the target audience
  • Strong writer with the ability to connect content to strategy and help our people understand the critical role they play in contributing to our success
  • Support the management of current communication channels and creation and development of new channels
  • Content and channel expertise to support existing Communication channels such as the intranet (O365 SharePoint), Yammer and regular face to face updates.
  • Lead topical campaigns such as the launch of new business values and our Divisional Strategy
  • Contribute creatively to the development of campaigns and promotional activities across our digital channels, including storyboarding and script writing.
  • Understand analytics and the importance of capturing data which helps us to demonstrate the effectiveness of our work.
  • Work closely with our press and media manager to identify story opportunities and to write copy where required.
  • Be recognised as a specialist in delivery of communication solutions.

Who are we looking for?

You will be a proven strategic internal communicator who can define, lead and execute internal communications to our colleagues across BAM UK & Ireland Division. A creative writer and thinker – someone who can turn their hand to develop creative content for our campaigns and engagement activities.

We need someone with a visual mindset who understands how to turn a story on paper into video, audio or animation, driving up views and increasing engagement with our digital channels.
You will have experience and knowledge of detailed engagement, internal communications and campaign delivery across multiple channels, focused on strategy and planning, but with the experience of execution and measurement.

You will enjoy the challenge of hunting down stories and have the tenacity and a determination to turn an idea into the finished product. Experience of working in construction and engineering would be a distinct advantage and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the subject is essential.

Subject/Sector Expertise

  • Track record of being able to transform technical information into understandable and appealing copy for a wider audience of stakeholders.
  • Ability to speak to senior leaders, understand a brief and to turn that into a deliverable communications plan or campaign.
  • A clear understanding of the purpose of effective communications within a large organisation and the ability tell a story and take colleagues on a journey.
  • Experience of running large leadership events, from logistics to content creation.
  • Degree or professional qualification in journalism or communications or similar relevant equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in a communications role within a large and complex organisation, transforming technical information into engaging communications.
